Champions Cup - Round 5
Results and Musings
June 1, 2006
By Jason Gilkey
Sorry guys- not much time for anything remotely funny this week (and don't say "what else is new"). With the holiday and a baby about to pop out any day now, been too hectic to really spend some time exploring the amusing details of your matches. I can give a quick synopsis (word of the week).

Before I begin, REMEMBER THAT THIS WEEK (JUNE 1) IS RAIN MAKEUP FOR WEEK 3. Talk to your captain.

SYNOPSIS OF WEEK 5
1. Rudd and Srouji up 8-3 and 9-5 in third set tiebreaker versus Todd Smith and Jim Jacobs. I thought only Gilkey could blow that lead.

2. Updated Scoreboard: Juniors 9 Old Guys 1

3. Hated not being close enough to hear Ken Large going absolutely berzerk versus Lipman. Was perplexed to see Large chipping and charging the net on match point. He has the hands of stone.

4. Maybe we should start the "Save the Centennial Lights" fund. We may start turning on all the cars lights that face the courts.

5. Never would have thought that Witzgall's lob record would even be approached, but Lott and Lance were giving it their all. Witzgall is truly the Cal Ripken record of our league.

6. I think Big Ballers already have the #1 seed locked up- ALMOST. And Say Hello are already planning their half-filled lineup for the 6 versus 3 match.

7. It's official- the "Where's Waldo- Captain Edition" shirts will be ready this week. (That's for all the old Cup players).

8. Woudn't want to be whoever plays Madrigal this week- the last time he had a two week losing streak was in the Boys 10s. Just who in the world got these punk kids to play in this league? Oh, yeah....................Jim.

9. I hopefully will have more time next week- unless Little Girl Gilkey is here. Then you all will just have to fend for yourselves for once.
